A leading day nursery in Gloucester for babies and children between the ages of 3 months and 5 years.

Our Barnwood Nursery operates from a spacious, homely, detached property, set in large, secure grounds, conveniently located on one of the main routes leading into Gloucester city centre.

A safe, happy and comfortable environment for your children

The nursery offers lots of indoor and outdoor space for the children’s activities, including dedicated wet/messy play and eating areas, designated base rooms for each age group, and a large, enclosed garden with challenging play equipment and many exploration areas, including a mud kitchen!

The base rooms are organised to enable even the very youngest children to choose their activities and help themselves to the resources they need, allowing them to develop a level of independence under careful supervision.

Babies have their own peaceful sleep room and bright, cheerful dining, play and changing areas.

Our Base Rooms

Our programme of activities includes:

Rugby
Regular rugby sessions given by qualified external teachers on a rolling schedule.
Local Gloucester Trips
Local trips and outings e.g. to the library, supermarket or park are regularly planned to support themes in the children’s learning.
Birthday Celebrations
Celebration of each child’s birthday with a birthday cake and card.
Community Involvement
We are fortunate to have built strong links within the local community and the children regularly enjoy visits from the fire brigade and police, invitations to special events at a nearby retirement home and involvement in performances for parents and friends at a local church.
Festival Celebrations
Celebrating festivals from a variety of cultures, to help the children’s knowledge and understanding of the world around them and introduce them to new foods, music, languages etc. in a positive context.

What else do we do for the children in our care?

Breakfast, lunch and tea enjoyed as social occasions, with the children seated in groups around small tables in the dining areas.
Morning and afternoon snacks and drinks: these are made available for the children to help themselves when they are ready.
Encouraging the children to clean their teeth after meals.
Establishing regular toileting routines that encourage early independence.

Food & Drink

We are passionate about the importance of establishing healthy eating patterns early in children’s lives and design our menus to offer a varied, tasty and nutritionally balanced diet.

Our aims are to help the children to learn about the food they eat, encourage them to try a wide variety of tastes and textures and to enjoy the social aspects of mealtimes with their friends.

Our nursery menu works on a 4-week rota and is reviewed seasonally. Click here to see our menu.

Our nursery chefs prepare all meals and snacks daily in the Barnwood Nursery kitchen, using fresh ingredients. We cater for all allergies, intolerances, cultural requirements and any additional food preferences, and our chefs are happy to meet with parents to discuss individual needs.

Importantly, the Food Standards Agency has inspected our catering facilities and procedures, and awarded our Barnwood Nursery a 5-star 'Very Good' rating.
Nursery mealtimes are:
Breakfast 8.00am – 8.30am
Lunch 11.45am – 12.45pm
Tea 3.45pm – 4.15pm

In addition, a morning and afternoon snack and drink are offered to the children, and water is available at all times for them to help themselves whenever they want it.

Weaning

We ask parents to provide formula or breast milk in clearly labelled bottles for those children who need it, until they are able to drink cow’s milk.

Your child’s key person will be happy to advise on and fully support you in weaning your child, and we will provide home-cooked, pureed and mashed foods until his or her digestive system can manage the full range of foods on our menu.
